No power. They say today but they say that everyday. One good thing that came out of the storm is that we now are friends with our neighbours. The family next door has been so good to us giving us batteries, candles and food. Also the doctor upstairs is nice. He is German and here for 2 years. So we have been cooking on a camping grill and drinking beer with everyone in the building in candle light. Its romantic for a while, but now we want power back. I can get used to no TV or AC but i like to turn the bathroom light on..
Tomorrow they are going to have a group of old NFL players doing a motivational speach. They had to mix schools so we are now with Central Middle School. Quite a few schools got flooded to the point they might not open the rest of the schoolyear. Its going to be busy and confusing, but they think 3000 out of 8000 kids will come back (whole district of course). That really isnt a lot. So you can see how many people lost their home. Whole apartment complexes close because they are unlivable. It is definately cleaning up in our neighbourhood, but elsewhere it is still looking like a bomb wend off. One of our Lebanese friends was saying he thinks it looks like home sometimes, if that tells you enough.
But so much help is coming in for the community, especially the schools. I have many collegues who are standing in line every night to get food from the Salvation Army. Some are not able to come back until they find a new place to live. I think there is only one person like me, where nothing happened.
There are stands everywhere with free things. Laundry, food, water & ice, phonecalls. Banks arent open so they have mobile homes to use and are on generators. Even some pizza places just made a temporary new shop in a caravan. Schools around the country are giving books and supplies. School across the state gave us schoolbusses to use. It really is heartwarming and i feel very lucky with the way things turned out for us.
I have more pics so when power gets back, i will post some more!
XOXO
