We are staying
Eventhough it is mandatory. The reason is that the traffic is already blocked at NASA Rd 1, which is 20 mins off the island. We might still leave in the middle of the night, but i think not.
Please do not worry. We are safe in our building. Like i said before this building has survived many storms. We are between tall buildings. Nothing will happen to us. We are afraid for our car, but we are going to park it a few mins down the road. We are boarding up our windows and we have enough canned food, water and beer to last us 4 days. The neighbours are staying too and we live next to a hotel that offered help if we needed it. We have people around us. The mayor was talking on TV but she sounded like she was mainly talking to people in wooden houses or mobile homes who are not behind the seawall. There a quite a few people staying. You can call me, i doubt i will be getting much sleep.
Trust me, as soon as we feel we will be in danger, we will leave.
What to expect here from Hurricane Ike

KHOU.com staff report
HOUSTON—As of Thursday afternoon, Ike’s track indicated the storm would make landfall in Brazoria County as a Category 3 hurricane.
A Hurricane Warning was issued for Liberty, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria, Harris, Matagorda and Jackson Counties Thursday morning. Paul said Ike’s storm center was only about 10 miles wide, which means the wind circulation is very tight.
If it stays that way, the worst weather from the storm would be along the narrow path of the hurricane’s center and in areas just to the right of that path.
Even though Ike was drawing ever closer to the coast, the cone of uncertainty still extended from Cameron, Louisiana, to near Corpus Christi.
The good news is, Ike isn’t expected to linger over the Greater Houston area and become a major flooding threat.
Only areas affected by the storm surge were forecast to be at risk for flooding.
GALVESTON ISLAND
Along the coast of Galveston Island, winds over 120 mph were expected. The storm surge there could be anywhere from 12 to 18 feet. “What that means is, Galveston Island is inundated with water,” Paul said. He said mobile homes there will also be destroyed, and trees and power lines will be downed
On the map we are just below Houston on the coast. It will hit right beside us, about 50 km awayon our left. If we definately stay i'll be sure to take photo's and video! :)
Be safe!
